Why does the mainstream media not show the effects of war anymore?

I was just wondering why we never see flag dd coffins returning anymore, or see pictures/videos of the innocent civilians caught in the inevitable crossfire of war. Does the media not do a fair job of representing the American people, or are the people really that hungry for war? The big media networks don't broadcast the usage of depleted uranium that causes birth defects of innocent children or even the troops who become casualties that they 'love' so much. They don't mind showing disturbing stories when Qaddafi's men a Libyan girl or if a natural disaster kills a lot of people. I don't get it
