Why do christians even have the old testament in their bible?

Christianity started off as a sect of Judaism known as "the Way". Jesus was born to a Jewish woman and all of the books of the New Testament were written by Jewish converts to "the Way" except for the books of Luke and of Acts that were probably written by a Jewish proselyte named Luke who was also a physician.
