What type of tree produces sticky, sappy 1 inch pods?

I have a tree that in the spring drops these brown cone shaped pods that have a lemon lime squishy sticky muck that makes them stick all over your shoes. It's ruined my carpet in my house. I'm trying to identify the tree to figure out how to get these pods off the sidewalk and carpet. Thanks!
