How to calculate head (water engineering)?

Ok im taking a waste engineering subject in my final year and ive forgotten how to calculate the water head! The question is calculate the leakage rate through a composite liner membrane over 1m thick CCL under a head of 0.3m and 3m. In the equation you need head, h. Is this just 3 - 0.3 = 2.7m? thanks
